The Railroad Commission of Texas is an state agency with primary regulatory jurisdiction over the oil and natural gas industries, pipeline transporters, natural gas & hazardous liquid pipeline industry, natural gas utilities, the LPG/LNG/CNG industries, and coal and uranium surface mining operations.

The Commission’s main functions are to protect the environment, public safety, correlative rights of mineral interest owners, wastage of natural resources, and also to assure fair and equitable utility rates in natural gas distribution industries.
