JOB DESCRIPTION JOB SCOPE: An Automation Engineer at Weatherford designs and deploys oil & gas production optimization, control and monitoring systems. Acting as a key technical contributor, the Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, documenting, configuring, installing, and servicing of electrical and electronic control systems associated with well site or facility control, wired and wireless communications infrastructure and production monitoring systems. Strong people skills, communication and presentation skills are critical for success in this role. The engineer should be able to perform tasks assigned with minimal to no supervision and should be able to comprehend and explain the inputs such as data & assumptions, workflow, results & recommendations with client and the implications/impact of these on operations. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform System Integration and Implementation, including Logic Design and Equipment Configuration with minimal supervision. Understand Automation Systems, including the safe installation and operation of these systems. Provide technical sales support for all automation related products and solutions including, but not limited to, artificial lift and field specific electronics hardware, production optimization and modelling software tools, etc. Lead, mentor and train junior level technical professionals. Consult internally on improvement criteria, learning and competence standards and domain development. Support Field Start-up and Commissioning. Train Weatherford Field Technicians and Assess Competencies. Configure and troubleshoot SCADA systems; and understand data flow between SCADA and production optimization platform used to monitor real time production operations. Understand configuration requirements, communication technologies and device protocols - Modbus, Modbus IP, OPC - necessary to acquire data from field. Understand Field Instrumentation and Signal Interfacing including discrete, analog, digital and serial devices. Prepare proposals and bids for all services being offered in the automation domain and review client tenders and proposals. Liaise with client to determine project scope, set expectations, manage deliverables, and make decisions that may impact change throughout the project lifecycle. Negotiate project details and scope as needed to create mutually beneficial results, meet internal quality and exceed clients' expectations. Address client concerns and objections in a manner that reduces tension or potential areas of conflict. Resolve or assist in resolving any complex problems or conflicts that arise during or after the project. Develop solutions to technical problems. Make decisions based on industry standards and experience, in compliance with Weatherford policy. Define necessary protocols for seeking advice on challenges falling outside of normal procedures. Effectively communicate and coordinate activities with various Weatherford groups, including sales, engineering, manufacturing, and regional management and service teams. Complete all mandatory training as assigned, including the required HSE training, in compliance with corporate and business unit guidelines. Maintain an acceptable HSE record. Know and understand Weatherford Quality Policy and comply with all requirements of the Quality Systems Manual, Operating and Technical Procedures and Workplace Instructions. Must understand and comply with all safety rules and company policies of Weatherford. Work assignments carried out to the highest quality level. Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job. QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: Computer Literacy in MS Windows plus basic desktop applications. Able to work independent with remote and infrequent supervision. Able to lead small teams of professional and technical members. Proficiency in Automation Systems, Oil & Gas Flow and Measurement Technologies. Experience with installation and wiring practices for electrical and electronic systems installed in hazardous locations. Experience with Artificial Lift Systems, including Reciprocating Rod Lift, Gas Lift, Plunger Lift. Degree in petroleum engineering/ Electrical & Computer Engineering/ Process Instrumentation/ relevant engineering from a recognized university. Experience in field installation and commissioning of Oil & Gas Artificial Lift Systems. Interface and program proficiency with a variety of electronic field devices, including RTUs, PLCs, Electronic Flow Meters and Smart Sensors. Verbal and written communication skills in English. Preferred: 2+ years functional experience in Oil & Gas production automation applications design. Multi-disciplinary team technical management experience to define objectives and operational guidelines for a cross domains solution. Functional knowledge of all Weatherford standard software programs required for the specific technical domains. Experience evaluating performance of wells under natural flow and artificial lift. Communication technologies and device protocols - Modbus, Modbus IP, OPC. Experience related to design, implementation or monitoring of a digital oil field solution. Experience in oil & gas upstream/midstream/downstream production, transportation, refining and distribution of petroleum products. Experience with Automation and Control Systems. Field experience in production operations.
