The Materials Engineer position is to develop, evaluate, and test materials such as elastomers and metals that are used for downhole tools for Completions Packers and Accessories Product line. Roles and Responsibilities: Apply technical knowledge to various engineering projects on materials and materials processing issues. Provide material consultation for material selection, characterization, property data and failure avoidance. Evaluate polymeric or/and metalogical materials by characterization, such as coupon testing, component testing, functional testing and analyzing. Execute data analysis to develop advancements for products, focusing on elastomer material selection and modification and processing effects; Provide material consultation to InTouch engineers, Field Locations and customers Perform material engineering review and approval of contact and sub-contract statements of work and specifications; Prepare and maintain source control and other procurement documentation and guidance for material procurement activities including assignment of quality requirements for procurements and sub-contracts Interface with suppliers and sub-contractor representatives on material and elastomeric parts manufacturing related activities Produce detailed technical reports and provide effective technical presentations Required Qualifications: A Master's degree required in Metallurgical, Mechanical, Aerospace or Industrial Engineering, or Material Science & Engineering from an accredited engineering school Hands-on experience with materials characterization techniques and instrumentation. Strong technical (written and oral) communication skills integrating experimental design, execution, and analysis Overview of polymer material science and engineering and basic knowledge on metallurgical materials Ability to learn new knowledge and process for characterization and manufacturing about different types of materials Operation of various laboratory equipment including Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Tensile Machine, Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA), Thermo-Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), Thermo-Mechanical Analyzer (TMA), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Small Angle X-Ray Scattering etc for material characterization and analysis. Determine appropriate analytical method for material analysis Analyze and present test data in a coherent and easy to understand manner. Effective technology team member with project management, communications and computer skills critical to completion of engineering projects. Project execution - sets project goals, develops action plans and achieves desired results. Proficient with Microsoft Office suits Has a hands-on approach to problem solving and solution design. Preferred Qualifications A PhD degree in relevant engineering majors 3+ years' experience of related engineering and manufacturing experience. Experience combined between formal metallurgical education and heat treat experience in a manufacturing or operations environment. Knowledge with case carburizing and quenching Knowledge of pusher furnaces Knowledge of shot peening process Working knowledge of basic manufacturing process such as casting, forging etc. Schlumberger is an equal employment opportunity employer.
