Job Description

The Indigenous and Local Content Lead supports the Project Communications & External Affairs Director and develops and implements strategies to foster positive relationships with the First Nation and the local communities and manages the implementation of the project commitments.

• Progress and oversee the implementation of Implementation Benefit Agreements, regulatory commitments and bi-lateral commitments
• Lead engagements with the First Nation communities and act as the internal point of contact to provide engagement support to the other Project teams (permitting, contracting and procurement, commercial, etc.)
• Manage and facilitate engagements with Haisla on any material areas of concern
• Build positive relationships with the First Nation communities to promote ongoing support for the project
• Support efforts to ensure that the project and subcontractors are creating employment, business and contracting opportunities for the local First Nation communities
• Support the project and subcontractors in communicating single-source contracting opportunities for Haisla and Gitxaala First Nations as well as support communications with unsuccessful bids and performance reviews
• Act as a point of contact for the First Nation communities to raise concerns, inquiries, updates and facilitate responses
• Record and track all First Nation engagements
• Support the External Affairs Manager in developing engagement strategies for the First Nation communities
• Support the External Affairs Manager in developing engagement strategies for the First Nation communities
• Identify engagement opportunities for the First Nation communities (including the Haisla elders)
• Provide relevant, timely updates to the External Affairs Manager and project leadership with information on First Nation communities to inform decisions and flag potential risks
• Work closely with the External Relations Manager, project leadership and functional departments to provide background on historical engagements with First Nation communities, flag areas of concern and ensure that the project implements best practices to maintain and strengthen First Nation relationships

Basic Job Requirements

• Post-secondary degree in communications, public relations or a related field from a recognized post secondary institute
• Minimum of 3 years direct experience working in a project-based environment with multiple stakeholders and direct/indirect interface with the client.
• Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, Indigenous and local community members, and visitors
• job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
• Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
• Established track record as self-starter, enthusiastic to assume challenges and management of complex projects
• Demonstrated ability to remain calm and resilient in challenging situations
• Collaborative in a team environment
• Strong influencing skills
• Must have excellent English verbal and writing language skills

Other Job Requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support the client with stakeholder, public outreach and government relations
• Maintain a positive image for JFJV on site and in the local community
• Facilitate communications with the site project employees and community as required
• Perform assessments of site communications channels, processes and procedures, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement
• Track and report metrics to demonstrate effectiveness of communications programs
• Stay current on communications best practices and trends and integrate into communications programs
• Support the JFJV brand
• Leverage internal and external resources to administer policies and procedures consistently for the project
• Analyze situations, identifies and forecasts pertinent problems and evaluates realistic options; and recommends and implements appropriate course of action

Preferred Qualifications

• Expert proficiency in all Microsoft applications with emphasis in Excel and Word
• Multitask numerous activities at the same time
• Self-starter attitude
• Good communication skills within a team setting, with leadership, and with external stakeholders
• Strong attention to detail
• Strong data mining and analysis
