Job Description

Position Summary

Contingent upon Oceaneering being awarded an anticipated contract we will have the need for an Engineering Specialist II who will report to the Waterfront Engineering Manager, performing troubleshooting of Amphibious Surface Ship Steam Propulsion Plant main steam and auxiliary steam system components, and steam boiler appurtenances, as well as, advising on the maintenance and repair of different components/systems. The above is not all-inclusive and other tasks will be assigned dependent on the Program's needs.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice on Auxiliaries Systems maintenance and repair, as well as Amphibious Assault Systems management, repair, and maintenance .
  • Establish and maintains standards and procedures for operating and maintaining machinery and equipment.
  • Investigate causes of equipment malfunctions and determine methods of repair.
  • Troubleshoot various HM&E equipment and systems, aid in the development of testing and evaluation procedures and support refurbishment and installation activities
  • Evaluate metrics related to technical data.
  • Provide sound and independent judgement that follows company policies and procedures while managing projects/contracts. Resolve issues, through direct interaction with department managers and supervisors, which may jeopardize product quality, delivery schedules or costs.
  • Maintains a positive work environment through positive actions to affect morale. Adherence to all federal, state, local and employment laws, and company regulations and policies.
  • Self-motivated, focused individual with strong attention to detail and high ethical standards.


The above list is only a representative sample of what the Engineering Specialist III may be asked to do. The Engineering Specilaist III may perform other special projects or duties as required to support business needs.


  • Working knowledge of Amphibious Surface Ship Steam Propulsion Plant main steam and auxiliary steam system components, and steam boiler appurtenances and associated equipment and systems.
  • Minimum ten (10) years engineering experience in the performance of conventional steam or nuclear propulsion equipment maintenance and modernizations
  • Experience and working knowledge required in US Navy technical procedures and repair procedures for steam system components.
  • Knowledge of US Navy Technical documents, development and management.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of specialized experience managing engineering functions and processes for U.S. Navy Amphibious Ships, Steam Propulsion Plants and associated equipment, piping and systems.
  • Technical knowledge and operational experience in all aspects of maintenance of U.S. Navy ships, submarines, military watercraft and unmanned vehicles.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated interpersonal skills with personnel and customers.

  • Foreman Naval and/or Commercial Shipyard with extensive Apprenticeship Program; or High School/GED with Apprenticeship Diploma and additional vocational courses; or High School/GED with extensive military training and experience in mechanical and/or electrical systems and quality assurance/control requirements.

Working Conditions
  • This position is considered PRODUCTION/OUTDOOR WORK which is characterized as follows.
  • The shipyard/base/manufacturing work environment; the site may contain mobility barriers with uneven ground level and obstructed pathways. Climatic and environmental conditions at the job site will be indoor/outdoor climate with various temperatures and noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment, and etc.
