Description Under guidance of the Shift Manager, this position supervises a group of Operations Foremen, Gear Specialist, Crane Operators and other Stevedore staff, ensuring that subordinates perform their jobs efficiently, safely and in a timely manner. Communicates vessel operation sequence and stevedoring requirements to subordinates. Executes the planned yard sequence and advises planners on information required. Identify problems within the plan and collaborate with other departments to resolve the issue in a safe manner. Ensure that all container handling equipment is allocated correctly based on work priorities as well as operational set up. Ensure that container handling machines are allocated in a manner that maximizes efficiency. Supervision of Operations Foreman, Crane Operators, and other stevedores. Ensure that foreman and operators always have clear work instructions. Hold all labour accountable for safety, productivity, and company values. Act in a manner that demonstrates the company's commitment to safety as well as the company values. Coach and correct unsafe or unsatisfactory worker behaviours. Problem solves daily. Problem solving could either be on his or her own, or in collaboration with other departments. Monitor continuous operations using the "hot seat" changeover at shift changeover times and rest break changeovers. Follows company guidelines in reporting, which includes reporting incidents related to safety, health, or equipment damage. The operations supervisor will work primarily outside, either from within a truck, on foot, or on board a vessel. They will also spend some part of the shift in the planning office, monitoring work instructions and working with the planning team to help arrange a safe operation #LI-POST We are looking for College degree preferred, with focus in Logistics, Business Management, Engineering, or similar Previous experience related to container operations, terminal operations, or supply chain management preferred. Previous experience as a foreman, supervisor or other similar position would be expected as a natural progression to this position. Physically fit with no fear of heights. Must be able to board a container vessel gangway ladder. Must have driver's license and be able to drive a standard pickup truck. Adequate math skills preferred. Require a high level of planning and organizational skills, has good leadership skills and excellent interpersonal skills, working with a highly diverse workforce. Understands safety regulations, safe working procedures and safe materials handling procedures and follows safety and work instructions. Can communicate operational instructions and information & is able to understand commonly used hand signals to communicate without radio system. Must have the ability to work as a team member and adhere to operational plans to achieve maximum productivity. Must demonstrate ability and willingness to follow safety guidelines and should be able to enforce those guidelines. General knowledge of Government Agencies (especially Customs) imports and exports procedures preferred.
