This is one of the key stakeholders in capital project cost estimating. The Cost & Schedule Engineer is responsible for developing screening estimates to support concept selection and detailed estimates to support project definition and budgeting. This position works with other functional groups to ensure cost estimates are timely and accurate. ExxonMobil is hiring for a long term career with various development paths. The initial role as cost engineer will offer opportunities long term for assignment in other roles such as project engineer. International assignments may also be part of the career path. Job Role Responsibilities The Cost and Schedule Engineer makes the cost estimate and high level schedule of proposed facilities, changes/additions (mainly revamp) to the Refinery and Chemical Plants and provides cost and schedule control for projects. For all estimates, you will collect input from various stakeholder including project manager, engineering specialists and materials/contracting department. A Cost and Schedule Engineer acts as a focal point within the multidisciplinary project team and is involved during the entire project life cycle. Your responsibilities: • Provide cost estimates, cost estimate basis memoranda and schedules for local projects. Qualities of estimates typically range from unclassified to appropriation basis quality. • Preparation of schedules in close cooperation with the Project Manager. • Translation of the process design, project engineering comments and execution plan into project costs. • Work together with the project team to come to the most cost effective project scope and approach. • Analyze cost data and changes in order to develop corrective action steps to bring project costs under control. • Prepare cost data for the plant asset register at project finalization. • Organization of cost estimate review meetings with key stakeholders. • Reconcile cost estimate and schedule after project completion and share/implement lessons learned. • Perform benchmark analysis of project estimates • Perform project control activities during project execution Cost & Schedule: • Detailed understanding of the use of cost estimation methods used in industry • Knowledge of scheduling systems • Must have good understanding of how projects are executed and the project cost impact of different execution strategies and implementing cost effective improvements. • Must have a good understanding of the components of multidisciplinary project costs, how they are related, where they are applicable, etc. • Good understanding of various types of contracts (such as unit-rate, lump sum, reimbursable). Expected Level of Proficiency • Fluent English language skills. • At least intermediate Dutch language skills and if not yet fluent, readiness to improve to fluent level. • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering or Technology or equivalent • 3+ years of technical cost estimating experience preferably within the petrochemical industry. • The initial role is typically performed at the local organization in Rotterdam.
