What is a BOSIET certificate?

BOSIET stands for Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training, which offers the offshore survival certificate. It is mandatory for all offshore workers before starting their career at an offshore rig and installation environment. There are 3 types of BOSIET certificates:

  • regular BOSIET - the usage of aviation life jackets with Emergency Breathing System (EBS)
  • T-BOSIET - the usage of aviation life jackets with Emergency Breathing System in year-round waters (for tropical countries)
  • BOSIET with CA-EBS - the usage of aviation life jackets with Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS)

How much does the BOSIET training cost?

The cost of a 3-days BOSIET course varies from $400 to $2000. However, most BOSIET courses stick to an average of $900-$1000. The price depends on the location you choose as well as on the competition level in the area. Usually, the quality of knowledge and preparation doesn’t differ critically in various certification centers.

What is included in BOSIET training?

The course includes practice and theory sections for the workers who are new to the industry. After getting your BOSIET certificate, you’ll be skilled at:

  • Safety Induction (hazards, associated risks, key offshore installation safety regulations, principles of managing safety on offshore installations, reporting incidents, accidents, and near misses, alcohol abuse policy, etc.)
  • Firefighting and Self Rescue (the usage of fire extinguishers, self-rescue and group escape techniques with a smoke hood and poor visibility)
  • Helicopter Safety and Escape Training (actions in case of a helicopter ditching and an emergency landing, Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) exercises, escaping, boarding an aviation life raft from water, etc.)
  • Sea Survival and First Aid (first aid actions, sea survival techniques, Totally Enclosed Motor Propelled Survival Craft (TEMPSC), winching technique)
  • EBS module

What is the difference between HUET and BOSIET?

HUET, standing for Helicopter Underwater Escape Training is a subdivision of BOSIET and FOET courses.

HUET course can be learned separately from other modules of BOSIET and FOET if this part is the only required at your position.

Those, who have a BOSIET certificate don’t have to get a separate HUET training certificate.
